To Place A New Tax On Cigarettes For The Sake Of
Health Care

smokers see a new tax on cigarettes as yet another assault on their rights
while the proposes of this ridiculous tax claim it
to be the savior of lives of hundreds of thousands
of children.
Just last week measures were proposed that would ban cigarette smoking in certain places of the city.
Now another group wants to hike up the tax on cigarettes in the name of health care for uninsured children.
The
new cigarette tax proposal was initiated and
propagated by a few church groups and people who
feel that their lack of ability to provide for their
families should be carried by others through taxes.
Get a job.....
The
new tax would push cigarettes to about $8 a pack.
An outrageous price in national and international
terms.
Many do not believe that the tax will encourage people to quit smoking and unfairly targets those who do
hitting them in their pockets.
Those who do smoke say an additional tax will only force them to find other cheaper places to buy them,
in such places as thec online cigarettes stores and
across the border. Most believe that at this
outrageous price most smokers are going to figure
out a way to get the product without having to pay
the higher tax.
The San Diego Organizing Project hopes to gather 10,000 signatures in San Diego, and statewide the goal is to gather 1 million.
They have until the end of April to gather signatures.

The department may take a harder tack with businesses, though, by using professional license renewals as leverage.
Accountants, hairdressers, nail technicians, funeral home directors and others would receive conditional license renewals if they owe taxes, Mr. Fajt said. To stay licensed, they must comply with payment plans designed to recoup back taxes.
"We will bend over backward to help people get into compliance," he said. "If there is somebody with a professional license who has a tax lien or back taxes due, we don't want to shut them down. ... That's not what this is about."
